Picking the right size snowboard

snowflakeThe most important decison you will make starting snowboarding is "what size of snowboard you will purchase". We have a snowboard length calculator avialable which will ask you for details on your height, weight and ability. Depending on these, and the type of snowboarding you want to do (Freestyle, Freeride or Off piste) we will recommend a certain sized board for you. Again this is just a guideline, other aspects like age may play a role, but in general this is not the case. Lower on in this page we mention some of our favourite snowboard brands, these might help you to decide on a brand when you go to store to purchase.

Buying for room for improvement

If you are buying your first snowboard, we recommend that you aim to purchase a board more outside your comfort zone. If you can, purchase your board in a store, and get them to set your snowboard bindings at the same time. Be honest when they ask you details like weight and ability, as this will effect the settings they will put on your bindings. The more advanced you are, generally, the more your feet will face forward in the bindings.

Picking a Brand

When looking for a brand of snowboard we would rate the following brands in order of merit:

  1. Burton
  2. K2
  3. Nitro
  4. Forum
  5. Billabong
  6. Analog
  7. Salomon
It is worth notin that different manufactures specialise in different types of boards. K2 do amazing race boards, but Burton's freestyle boards would be considered superior.
